On December 28th,the Forum on High-quality Development of Medical Education was successfully held by Shandong Second Medical University. Attendees of the forum included Lei Haichao, Deputy Director of the National Health Commission, Deng Yunfeng, Vice governor of Shandong Province, Xie Lixin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yu Jinming, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Dong Erdan, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Lu Lin, President of Shandong First Medical University, Liu Sijie, Deputy Secretary General of Shandong Provincial Government, Liu Yun,Secretary of the CPC Municipal Committee of Weifang Municipality, Li Ming, Party Secretary and Director of Shandong Provincial Education Department, Mu Shanyong, Deputy Director of the  Shandong Provincial Health Commission. Liu Jun, Secretary of the Party Committee of SDSMU and Guan Yingjun, President of SDSMU, presided over the address session and the launching ceremony.

Lei haichao pointed out that, since 1951, Shandong Second Medical University has gone through a journey filled with struggles and made achievements in the past 70 years with a spirit of perseverance. He hoped that with in-depth studying and implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s discourse on cultivating virtues in talents, SDSMU would strengthen medical humanities education and cultivate multi-level medical talents to make a greater contribution the “Healthy China” strategy.

Deng Yunfeng stressed that the renaming of Shandong Second Medical University was a milestone in the history of Shandong higher education development, and has made a significant impact on improving the level of medical education by optimizing the layout and structure of higher education and accelerating the construction of a high-quality education system. He hoped that by using demands for service as the guide and the creation of new medical disciplines as the starting point, SDSMU would steadfastly and fully develop through the implementation of the decisions of the Party Central Committee and the Provincial Party Committee.

Yu Jinming pointed out that it was SDSMU, his alma mater, which imparted medical knowledge and a code of conduct to him. He showed gratitude to the alumni of SDSMU for engaging in the growth of their alma mater, forging ahead, and accelerating the pace of building a high-level medical university. 

Liu Yun stressed that, as the earliest higher education institution, SDSMU has ushered in the “university era” in Weifang.

On behalf of the Weifang Municipal government, he stated that the government will do everything in its power to support the development of SDSMU and hoped that the school will make innovations in medical education, promote an integration among industries, academia, research and application, and strive for talent cultivation; the teachers will cultivate more talents who are both morally and academically strong; the students will uphold their youthful ideals, empower the youth, and become a new generation which will rejuvenate the nation.

Guan Yingjun announced that, standing at a historical starting point, the school will add doctoral degree awarding units, promote high-level faculty, build regional innovation and medical service bases, and establish a more competitive medical university.

Giving a warm applause, all the attendees witness the launch of the brand “Shandong Second Medical University”.

At the forum, XieLixin, Yu Jinming, Dong Erdan, Wang Rui made reports respectively. Meanwhile, sub Forums on High Quality Development of Discipline Construction, High QualityDevelopment of Education and Teaching Reform, and High Quality Development of Affiliated Hospitals were held respectively.
